How the challenge works

  • Create a new Sprout at Work account starting April 1, 2026.
  • Start finding out who wants to be a Captain and form a team between April 1 and April 30.
  • Team up with 2-20 of your fellow employees in the Exercise Across Abbott Challenge.
  • Starting May 1, earn points for your team each time you report your minutes of exercise through May 31. We’re committed to keeping Exercise Across Abbott fun and fair for everyone! If we spot any unusual activity, employees will be notified to quickly make corrections. Those who don’t update their entries will be disqualified.
  • Team members who earn points will score an Exercise Across Abbott T‑shirt! Be sure to log your activity—only those with earned points will qualify.
  • In May, Team Captains will get all the details on how to order T‑shirts for team members that qualify. Captains will handle placing the order and distributing the T‑shirts to their team.

Tips for the team captains

As a team captain, your enthusiasm and leadership can inspire your teammates to stay engaged throughout the challenge – while having fun! Use these tips and strategies to create a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

Keep things fun

  • Organize themed workouts – Plan fun activities like “Throwback Thursday” workouts featuring old-school exercises or a “Superhero Strength Day” where everyone dresses up.
  • Host friendly competitions – Set up step challenges, plank contests, or mini fitness games to encourage friendly competition.
  • Celebrate every achievement – Give shout-outs, offer small rewards, or simply recognize effort to keep morale high.
  • Encourage humor and positivity – Create a positive environment where laughter is welcomed by sharing funny workout stories, jokes, or memes in your group chat (like, WhatsApp).

Encourage goals

  • Set attainable goals – Establish daily and weekly objectives that challenge your team but are realistic and achievable.
  • Check in regularly – Have short team chats on progress and struggles to keep everyone accountable and motivated.
  • Encourage team walks and workouts –
Use break times or free moments to go for a quick walk together or do a short workout.
  • Celebrate improvements –
Whether it’s increased endurance, better technique or reaching a goal, recognize and celebrate personal and team progress.

Cheer them on

  • Share fitness and nutrition tips –
Share workout plans, healthy recipes and recovery tips to help teammates stay on track.
  • Encourage participation in fitness events – Suggest team members join local or virtual fitness challenges to stay engaged beyond Exercise Across Abbott.
  • Offer personalized support –
Check in individually with teammates to provide encouragement, answer questions and offer motivation tailored to their needs.

“I believe that a united team, where everyone feels valued and connected, performs better and enjoys the experience more. Helping the team achieve its goals and celebrating our victories together is incredibly rewarding.”

– Tina Wang, Team Captain
